Election day
How to vote
Polling day is Thursday 13 August 2026. Polling stations are open 7am to 10pm.
First, make sure you're registered — it only takes about five minutes at gov.uk/register-to-vote. Registration closes a couple of weeks before polling day, so do it early.
Where to vote
Then find your polling station on Tendring District Council's website: Where to vote — Tendring District Council. Your poll card also shows your station — but you don't need the card to vote.
Bring photo ID
You now need an accepted form of photo ID to vote in person — a UK passport, photocard driving licence, or certain concessionary bus passes all count (expired ID is fine if it still looks like you). No photo ID? You can apply — free — for a Voter Authority Certificate.
Can't get to a polling station?
You can vote by post or appoint a proxy to vote for you. See gov.uk/how-to-vote for how to apply and the deadlines — apply in good time, as postal and proxy deadlines fall before polling day.
However you vote — please do. In a by-election, turnout decides everything.
